Choose the Best Thumbnail and Title for Your YouTube Video (test feature)
YouTube has started testing video titles in addition to testing cover images, or thumbnails. For those video creators who are worried about whether they will get views when publishing their YouTube video thumbnail or title, you can now use up to 3 titles at the same time from the test and compare section in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s Official Announcement on Title and Thumbnail Testing
According to YouTube’s official announcement:
We’re testing a feature that will allow creators to test video titles in addition to thumbnails through the Test & Compare tool in Studio. This feature is currently enabled for a small percentage of users, but we plan to make it available to others over time. This means that soon you’ll be able to choose 3 different titles for a video and see which one gets the best feedback and the most attention from your audience.
What’s the thumbnail testing?
YouTube first announced in June 2023 that it was developing a tool to test thumbnails. The tool was first launched last year for some creators. With this tool, creators can upload three different thumbnails for a video, and YouTube will show each to different groups of users based on its algorithm, and you can ultimately choose the most viewed thumbnail for your video.
YouTube explains:
We show thumbnails to different audiences and select the best one based on the most watch time, and we show you the winner tag and watch percentage. Watch time is the best metric to use when deciding how to optimize your channel’s content, and it can directly impact your growth.
YouTube Video Title Testing Now Enabled!
The cover image testing feature, which has been available since 2023, has now been enabled for video titles as well. This means that not only the appearance and cover image of a YouTube video, but also the title text is now being tested and analyzed. This new step helps creators decide which titles perform best and get the most views based on real data and user performance.
